One of the songs that was performed by the final 8 during both the AI Gives Back and the results show tonight was Shout To The Lord.
They performed the song very well, and though it seems like there are several of the finalists who are Christian I was still surprised to hear the song. Even more so that they performed it twice.
Strange choice of songs considering their topic but pretty cool that millions of people are watching the show and hearing that song. They really did preform the song well and actually did the whole song on the results show.
What did you think?
Peace.

American Idol Goes Christian??

Personally, I found it a little offensive and wrong on several levels.
The not-so-subtle message was that giving to those in need was a Christian thing. So non-Christians aren't interested in helping others?
I've got no problem with an individual Idol contestant singing a religious song if they choose. It's a personal thing for them.
But I wonder if all of the contestants had a say in it or if, like the Ford commercials, they are bound by contract to sing it regardless of their religious beliefs?
Singing a Christian song as a group on a show like that is no different than if they all sang a song about being white. Or being black. Or whatever. There's nothing wrong with being Christian, white, or black, but not everyone is going to appreciate a song about it, and some may be offended.
But the bottom line is that it's all about ratings and getting people talking about the show--which they've accomplished. ;)
Personally I loved it and I thought that they did a fantastic job of belting it out. I thought it was awesome.
I was interested to see that there is some buzz about it this morning because they changed the first line from "Jesus" to "shepherd". I noticed, but the rest of the song was unchanged, so I thought maybe it was just a slightly different rendition, which happens with songs like that sometimes.
Great show, great song.
I wasn't dissappointed with the selection. I thought Michael Johns was pretty good, but not great.
I thought that was cool and completely unexpected!
I'm wondering who picked the song.
(I'd like them to sing "WE SHINE"!)
Umm... Well this is for the Commenter who said being christian is no different than being white or black... THAT IS WRONG!
Jesus came down here to bring Division!
YOU HAVE THE CHOICE!!!
You can't choose your race!
He is always there at the door waiting! But, It's your job to open it and let him in! And it sounds like you have locked it!!!
