Mac Addicts: Command+Y

I have learned to LOVE the Command+Y feature in the new Mac OS (Leopard).

This simple shortcut allows you to view any document without opening it's associated application. I mean, you get to see a complete view of the entire document!

This has been a huge time saving feature for me! Instead of leaving apps open or loading several or waiting for one to load (which is still remarkably faster on the Mac, even the office products), I can view entire documents using Command+Y. I look through documents of notes, team schedules, production schedules, etc without ever opening them in their apps. Allows me to move a lot faster.

What keystrokes or shortcuts have you found useful on the Mac?
Try the Command+Y function in any of your finder views.
Peace.

Morphed from Tiger to Leopard

Friday I switched over from Tiger to Leopard! If you don't know what I'm talking about, you need to get a mac!

Leopard has a lot of cool features and I've not had enough time to explore them all yet. Some great new productivity tools, which I have already put to use.

I'll post a few of the commands and shortcuts that I find as I explore. If you find any you'd like to pass along, feel free to let me know.

I can't honestly remember what it was like to use a Windows machine and how I survived when I did.
Peace.

I Almost Forgot...

While on our way back from the Carolinas a couple weeks ago, we ran into a bit of trouble. We learned the hard way that mapquest directions TO a destination do not equal directions FROM a destination. The skinny is we could not find the exits we were looking for and got lost on top of the traffic trouble we had.

At one point we began to stress because the map we had with us wasn't any help with trying to find a way back home. I then remembered my trusty Macbook Pro, and that all I needed was a wifi connection. So I jumped off the nearest exit and hoped for a hotspot location. There it was, a 24-hour Starbucks - in West Virginia of all places! Unbelievable I tell you! I couldn't seem to find a Starbucks with wifi while in the Carolinas but WV has a 24-hour Starbucks... I didn't even know there was such a beast!

Anyway, I was able to pull up the net, grab some new directions and make it home. Saved by Starbucks and my Mac!

Don't leave home without them.
Peace.

Uh Oh

Freaked out a bit on Friday of this week... my mail program started trippin and I had to do a force quit.

When I restarted it my contacts were completely gone from my address book. I had planned to do my first .mac backup that day.

Man was I bummed. The cool thing I was able to import all of my email addresses from emails I had in my Inbox and smart mailbox folders, but all of my phone number and snail-mail address info is gone.

Lesson in backups I guess, which I've now done of my complete system. Live and learn!

Peace.

Back in Mac!

A couple weeks ago, I officially became a Mac dude! I use to work for a company many years ago that used Macs almost exclusively, so it's been a while. The interface is pretty cool (better than it used to be) and this puppy flies! I've got the latest and greatest MacBook Pro with the Intel Core 2 Duo — which packs the power of two processor cores. Awesome!

Still picking up the tips and tricks to doing things the fast way and trying to migrate my usable data from my previous machine. I'll keep you posted on sme of the things I've learned along the way. But so far, I would recommend this bad boy to anyone!

Peace.
