The dollar movie theater (which actually cost two dollars everyday other than Tuesday) my wife and I go to is gone.
No more seeing a movie in the theater, except on special occasions (too expensive).
No more taking the kids to the theater - with four it really adds up.
Bummed about this... still and it's ben gone since July 5th. They are tearing it down to put up a mega-gigantic theater instead. Wish I hadn't bought Kristen a bunch of gift cards to the place at Christmas time (we liked going to the movies together on our date night).
Anyway, just had to express my sadness in regards to this. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but a fun activity for us now out of reach.
Unless you all know of another one :)

I Am Legend
My wife and I got an opportunity to go to the dollar theater here in town (which is actually $2 a ticket but still a great deal) this last week. I talked her into seeing the movie I Am Legend as neither of us had seen it yet.
I have to say it was probably one of the best movies I've seen in a while, especially at the theater. We love suspense movies that actually make you jump and that also have a storyline to them. This movie did not disappoint.
I didn't know much about the premise of the film going into it so I wasn't sure what to expect. This movie has some very creative elements to it. I'd even say it has some very biblical undertones to it without being an over the top 'Christian' type movie.
I don't want to say too much and ruin it for those of you who have not seen it. I will say the suspense level kept me on edge the whole time once it hit. I also feel like I need to own a German Shepherd and a Bob Marley CD.
If you have not seen this movie yet, I highly recommend it (especially if you can see it on the big screen).
Once you've seen it (or if you have already), what did you think about it?
Peace.

I Want My Two Dollars
One of my most favorite movies of all time is the movie Better Off Dead, starring John Cusak when he was basically a kid. I can't really explain it except that it takes me back to when I first saw the movie.
If you've never seen this movie, you're totally missing out on the 80's music and movie sequences. It's hilarious! Anyway, I digress...
Here's the premise for those who haven't seen it:
Lane Meyer (Cusak) is obsessed with his girlfriend Beth and is crushed when she falls for the new captain of the ski team, Roy. After several failed suicide attempts, narrow escapes from the relentless paper boy, and nearly unbearable dinners at home with his crazy family, Lane finds a new love in French exchange student Monique Junot. Meanwhile, he must beat Roy on the slopes to regain his honor. The idea is that Lane thinks he would be better off dead than to live without his now ex-girlfriend, when in reality he learns the opposite is true. I was watching this movie again the other night for the millionth time and noticed something key that Monique confronts Lane with... his failures stem from his attitude and his view of himself. "I can't" is his middle name.
One of the things my wife and I have always tried to instill in our kids is "if you say you can't, you won't be able to". If you tell yourself that you can't do something you've already set yourself up to fail - you've already determined the outcome before you've even tried. There may very well be things that are beyond your capabilities, at least for the moment. But our words can be very powerful, even to ourselves and can affect our attitude and outlook.
Just take can't out of your vocabulary for a month and see what happens. What could you accomplish? What have you been called to do that you haven't even attempted because of that word?
Oh, and "I want my two-dollars!"
(See the movie and you'll know what this means).
Peace.

Adam Sandler and Kevin James
Just watched a trailer for the movie Chuck & Larry coming out in July.
I don't know - it looks pretty funny. Hopefully they didn't show all the funny parts in the trailer. It'll be nice to have Adam Sandler in a funny role again. Kevin James is pretty funny himself so I'm betting on it being a good summertime flick to go check out.
You can also check out more info on the movie here.
Peace.

Going Down in a Blades of Glory
Ok, so with a little help from my friends, I surprised my wife for her birthday last night and took her out to dinner and a movie. She's got the basic rundown here.
We went with one of my friend's recommendations for restaurants and let me tell you, it was pretty good. You can tell this guy where you are going and what kind of food you're looking for and he'll tell you the best places to go. So far he has been right-on with every place he's sent me to (thanks Scott)!
We went to this place and totally loved it - one of my new favorite places to go in Geneva... good stuff and even somewhat healthy.
I knew my wife wanted go see "Blades of Glory" with Jon Heder and Will Farrell. Since, it was opening night we got our tickets early and got in line early - and got good seats. A couple of things about the movie... you need to know that I think Will Farrell is usually pretty funny. You also need to know that you should be in one of those stupid moods to go see it. I thought it was a good movie, very funny, but I think both of those guys have been funnier. It helped that there was a theater FULL of people laughing at the same stuff I laughed at (tends to amplify things a bit - mob mentality I guess). Don't know if it would have been as funny at home.
Still funny though... and my wife had a blast which made it totally worth it.
Peace.

Movies By Mail
I love movies. Some friends of ours got us a subscription to Netflix for Christmas.
Netflix has actually been a pretty cool service.
Apparently, our mailperson must think so as well. The last three DVD's we've received have been open.
So far none of them have been damaged and we've got the DVD's on or near the times we were scheduled to. Not sure what to do about it yet but we are eager to check out the next couple of movies to see if they show up the same way.
Kind of funny yet kind of creepy at the same time. I feel violated in a way. I'll keep you posted on what we find out.
Peace.

Happyness
I surprised my wife and took her out to dinner and a movie on Tuesday night. We saw The Pursuit of Happyness and it was a great movie... an awesome story, period. Talk about guts, risk taking, and determination.
I would definitely recommend this movie.
We also caught a couple of cool previews: Wild Hogs and Reign Over Me, which has the tune How To Save a Life (we did this song at The Orchard a few weeks ago when we talked about friendship - awesome song).
Peace.
