Noteworthy: Why?

Do you know why you do what you do? Whatever you do, do you know why you do it? Maybe you work a 9-5 job or you work part time... or maybe you're in ministry somewhere. Maybe you work at home or own your own business. Maybe you're a volunteer.

Why do you do what you do?
When you've figured it out, share why you do what you do.

Peace.

Man, what a great question. I never had a believable answer for that until I became a mom. Why do what I do? Well its not like when you have kids you have much of a choice. But why I do motherhood the WAY I do? Because me and my husband are the only ones accountable for their upbringing. I loved the Orchard message a couple weeks back on parenting. Yes we bring our kids to church and the fact that our kids beg to go to the Orchard every week helped our decision to become members. But I'm the one who spends the most time with them so I'm the one who is in charge of their education and who it does or doesn't get delegated to. High pressure gig this motherhood. But its also ministry. Its a combination of career, ministry and volunteer all rolled into one. And every time I mess up, I just ask someone to hand me my millstone and be done with it! There is a quote on an Anne Geddes print that goes "the decision to have a child is to accept that your heart will forever walk outside your body". I couldn't agree more.

Too long an answer to your question?

I'm not sure I'm here yet, but we just read this verse last night, and it's totally appropriate:

[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed... Phil 3:10 AMP

It's certainly a goal to keep in mind. In whatever we do, our purpose is not to be doing, but to be loved by God and be continually transformed by his grace.

What a great point to ponder... Why do any of us do what we do? I work as a server at Chili's Grill and Bar and the reason I'm there is to take care of the people who come into my restaurant. It's not about the money. It's about taking care of people. If you do that, the money will naturally follow. I'm one of about half a dozen christians in our store and this is our philosophy. We're just spreading the love...

My 8 year old confidently told me last week that our whole reason for living is to love Jesus and help other people. I was struck by the clarity and simplicity of his thinking, and even more so by the way he said it -- so "matter of fact", as if this should be so obvious. Life isn't complicated, is it really? It may not always be easy, but it sure is simple when you get right down to it.
